About the Book

Falling in love with Gabe Anderson was as easy as breathing. Fighting my feelings for my brother’s best friend was agonizingly hard. I never imagined giving in to my desire for him would cause such a destructive ripple effect. That kiss was my grasp at a lifeline—something, anything to hold me steady in my crumbling life. Now, I have to suffer with the fallout while trying to convince him it’s all worth the consequences.

Guilt overwhelms me—over what I’ve done, the lives I’ve taken, and more than anything, over my feelings for Skye Hawke. Craving my best friend’s little sister is insanely self-destructive. It never should have happened, but since the moment she kissed me, I haven’t been able to get her out of my mind. If I take what I want, I risk losing everything. If I don’t, I’ll lose her and a piece of myself. The raging storm threatening to rain down on the city is nothing compared to the one that will come from my decision.

Love can be torture, but sometimes, love is the only thing that can save you.

My Review:

4 Stars!

I really liked this steamy, forbidden romance!

This is part of a series. Although, it says it can be a standalone, I wish I had read book one first because there are a LOT of references to things that happened in that book. However, I was never lost on what was going on as this book is centered and almost entirely Gabe and Skye.

Gabe is tortured and broken. He loves the Hawke family like they are his own. For all intents and purposes, they are his family. He fights his attraction to Skye at every turn and sometimes I just wanted to smack him upside the head and tell him to decide if he wanted to be with her or not with her. Skye is Gabe’s best friend’s little sister and she has been in love with Gabe since she was sixteen. He keeps pushing her away. Here’s the thing about Skye. It is alluded to that she is impulsive and irresponsible multiple times throughout the book by multiple people, but I never saw that. Is she snarky and unapologetic? Yes. Does she love with her whole heart? Absolutely. I actually think Skye is one of my favorite heroines. She is strong and sassy, emotional and honest but she things go south, she is in control. She fights for what she wants and her fight for Gabe was impressive.

There is so much sexual tension in this book. No joke! It’s like 5-alarm fire hot at points. Heck, the first few pages of the book are hot and it doesn’t even involve who you think. Not only do you get some serious angst, there is also danger, weather, and a crazy psycho. I mean, what more would you want?

New Release: 4 Stars for I Just Want You by Kaylee Ryan!

Title: I Just Want You
Author: Kaylee Ryan
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: March 28, 2017

“Go to college,” they said. “Get a good job,” they said. “It will be a piece of cake.” Well, whoever they are, they lied. Sure, college was a blast, but after college, not so much. The finding a job to go with my expensive education, that part was not so easy. At least not until I was offered a position at the new club in town.Life is defined by the little moments that have the power to change it completely. I never thought getting a cup of coffee would change mine, but it did. She did. She’s one of those moments.

He’s my boss.

She’s my employee.

I want him.

I can’t resist her.

My Review:

4 Stars!

Kaylee Ryan gives us another swoonworthy romance with an alpha and the girl he falls for hard and fast in the off-limits contemporary romance.

Berklee is a college graduate who can’t get a job in her field of study.  She is working in a coffee shop while sending out resumes and waiting for a bite.  One day, Mr. Super Sexy Beard drops in for a coffee and her life changes.  Crew is guarded after a surprise inheritance leaves him filthy rich.  After considering what to do with his money, he decides to open a night club in town.   Even with the help of his best friend, he knows there is more work that they can handle and neither of them has a business background.  They set out to hire a club manager and suddenly, the hot girl from the coffee shop is Crew’s employee and off limits.  Can these two keep their hands to themselves?

Kaylee Ryan’s writing is easy and fun.  She gives us great characters that you quickly find yourself invested in and rooting for.  Crew and Berklee are great!  Reading them fighting their attraction to each other is great.  Their attraction simmers on the pages and you read just waiting for it to combust.  When it does?  Holy steamy goodness, folks!

This is another great story from Kaylee Ryan.  This one was a little bit rushed for me, but still had all the feels and characters I loved.  The secondary characters play important roles and don’t feel like they are imposing on the story as a whole.  The plot is hot and sweet.

Another great book from Kaylee Ryan that you are sure to enjoy!

New Release: 4.5 Stars for Belle by Anonymous Girls!

Title: Belle
(A Tangled Royals Book #1)
Anonymous Girls
March 21st 2017
Genre: Young
Adult | New Adult | Contemporary
Jessica Hildreth | Creative Book Designs

Isabelle “Belle” March is a nobody. A nothing. A Peasant. No one even knew who
she was until one of the Royals, Adam “Beast” Castle, decided she was hot
enough to ignore the hierarchy at our school—a hierarchy I myself set in place.
I run this school, and the Upper East Side, too. Here at H.E.A., we stick to a
strict social status, something most of Manhattan does, too. So when Beast
starts dating Belle? All hell breaks loose.

Royals shouldn’t date Peasants, and you’re about to see why.

Oh, and please don’t buy this thinking you know how this story is going to end.
You know nothing. Nobody here at H.E.A. plays by the rules, or follows the
books. The only one who knows anything around here is me…

And I’m not telling anyone a thing.

My Review:

4.5 Stars!

What do you get when you take fairy tale characters and mash them up with Gossip Girl?  You get Belle, that’s what!

I have to tell you, when I was first approached to read this, I was a bit hesitant.  I wasn’t sure how this was going to go with beloved characters from fairy tales thrust into the snarky Gossip Girl-like world, but let me tell you, it was excellent!

So, our Gossip Girl here is no secret.  She is Elsa, Queen of H.E.A., and she sends out daily blasts on the goings-on at the school.  She is nicknamed the Ice Queen, but this is not her story.  This is Belle’s story and she doesn’t end up with who you think.

I loved this.  I honestly did.  These two authors have quite the collaboration here.  They wrote the characters you love (Snow White, Elsa, Cinderella, Belle, etc.) with enough similarities to the fairy tale stories they are derived from, but added a little twist to each of them, effectively making these characters a bit more interesting.  Don’t let the fact that this is a YA novel fool you.  There is enough snark, bite and steamy goodness to keep this interesting for readers of all ages.  Okay, maybe not younger ones, but you get what I mean.  Add in a poor little rich boy/girl plot, bullying, caste systems and betrayal and you get an entertaining book that will leave you wanting more from the H.E.A. world.

Do yourself a favor and grab this one.  Join in on all the H.E.A. goodness!

Adam was a force of nature when he was out there on the field.
There was something almost animalistic in the way he reared his arm back,
calculated the risks, and some how managed to fire off a perfect shot toward
the receiver—more often than not, Prescott—every single time. Every time his
passes were caught, I waited for him to show some sign of his usual cockiness
or even excitement, but he just nodded, slapped his hands together, and did it
again. He was so grave, so focused, and it was clear he took his duties as
quarterback very seriously.

Whereas Prescott danced. Literally. I’d laughed along with the rest of the
crowd as he’d done his thing, but Beast had been too busy talking to his coach
as the defensive lineup trailed onto the field to see it. That’s how the whole
game had gone.

Beast doing his thing, Prescott doing his, and Ella and the Royals all cheering
them along with flips, bounces, and pyramids.

They cheered now, something about the Royals being undefeatable, and the W.W.H.
team going home crying, and the crowd went wild when Ella was flipped in the
air and caught by Elsa, Anna, and Tianna. Prescott grinned from the bench and
blew a kiss at Ella, who beamed, her cheeks red.

Something had changed between them since last night, and they seemed… happy.
Prescott no longer seemed like he was in a prison sentence without parole, and
even Ella had been smiling and joking with her friends while the boys played.

I looked at Adam. He watched the girls, too. His gaze was narrow on them,
almost like he was annoyed at something, but then he shrugged and turned back
to me. When he saw me watching, he grinned, lifted a hand, and waved. Smiling,
I immediately waved back. He pressed his hand to his heart, then slammed his
helmet back over his head.

Snow sighed beside me. “God, can you believe he’s yours?”

“Not really,” I admitted, tugging my slouchy hat lower. “He’s
so… so…”

New Release: 4.5 Stars for Defiant Temptation by Lynn Stookes!

Title: Defiant Temptation

Series: Harden #3

Author: Lynn Stookes

Genre: Adult, Suspense Romance

Published: March 24, 2017

Harper Andrews hasn’t had it easy; abandoned by her mother, dated a scheming boyfriend, and fought for her father’s life against cancer. But she’s always prevailed, until now when her world seems to be falling apart.

Tristan Page never loses control; not at the death and reemergence of his sister’s cheating husband, the attack on her life, or even when his company seems to be failing. He’s always in command of his actions until one woman threatens to make his world spiral.

Tristan plays on Harper’s last nerve.

Harper tries Tristan’s patience and self-control.

Forced together, in a search for her mother, they battle their attraction for one another. Harper wants him. Tristan wants what he can’t have.

Can they defy temptation or will their explosive chemistry set them on a path for self-destruction?

My Review:

4.5 Stars!

This is the little series that could.  It gets better and better with each book!  Defiant Temptation is my favorite of the series yet.

This poor group of Harden residents has some really rotten luck.  This time we get Tristan and Harper’s story (finally!).  Tristan has shown interest in Harper since book one, but he has never acted on it.  In fact, through the first two books, Harper and Tristan have run hot and cold with a lot of arguing.  From the start of Defiant Temptation, we get more of the same and so much more.  These two are like a bomb ticking away until the ultimate messy explosion of feelings.  And it was messy.

Here is the thing about this series and this book in particular, while the relationship/romance is certainly the spotlight, the mystery runs a close second.  We don’t have to wait until the end for feelings to be declared, but we do have to wait to see if everything will work out.  These books feature feelings and relationships, but give you the added bonus of some pretty crazy and mysterious danger.

Lynn Stookes knocks it out of the park with this third book in the Harden Series!  Danger, intrigue, a crazy mystery, lots of feels and an intense relationship come together for an engrossing read you won’t be able to put down!

Defiant Temptation Excerpt © Lynn Stookes 2017

“What ya’ doing man?” Blake questions.

“Working on a case,” I fib. I am working on a case, but he doesn’t need to know it involves waiting outside Harper’s campus while she finishes her classes.

“You sure about that?”

“Yeah,” I pause. What does he know? “Why? What’s up?”

“Oh, you know, nothing,” he chuckles. “Mrs. Nelson stopped by the station today.”

“Yeah? Everything okay with her?”

“She’s perfectly fine,” his voice cracks with a laugh.

Sawyer’s voice booms over the line, “Is that Tristan?”

“Yes.” I hear shuffling in the background.

“You asking about Mrs. Nelson?”

“I’m trying to if you would shut your mouth,” Blake retorts.

“Put it on speaker,” Sawyer demands.

“Such a demanding little shit,” Blake mumbles.

“But you love me anyway.”

“If you didn’t make Dani happy, I’d probably find a dark hole for you.”

I chuckle at the banter between two of my best friends. We’ve always had an easy friendship, even though our lives couldn’t be more different. Blake has a large loving family; I just have Kylie, and now Dani; Sawyer has an alcoholic father he doesn’t see much. Such different upbringings, but we’ve always been close. Even after years away, it was easy to pick up where we left off.

“Hey, Tristan,” Sawyer says into the phone.

“What the hell do you want?” I counter, dreading what they have to say. If it has to do with Mrs. Nelson, it’s nothing good.

“Like I was saying, we had a visit from Mrs. Nelson today,” Blake explains.

“Yeah, so?”

Sawyer chuckles, “She had a story to tell us.” Another laugh bursts from him. “She wanted us to talk to you.”

“About your discretion.” Blake joins in the laughter.

“Discretion?” Confusion runs through me. I have no clue what the old bird is talking about.

“She saw you and Harper pull out of Harry’s place early this morning,” Blake explains.

“Too early for anything pure,” Sawyer snorts. “And your devious ways will get Ms. Innocent Harper into trouble. You better make an honest woman of her.”

That damn old woman. What the hell is she doing? Watching my every move? I remain quiet, hoping they’ll move on, but knowing better.

“Is it true?” Blake asks, trying to contain his amusement.

“Are your devious ways corrupting the innocent Harper?” Sawyer questions.

“No!” I shout, frustration rushing through my veins.

“Banks wasn’t happy when he heard the news from Mrs. Nelson,” Blake comments.

“Apparently, it wasn’t the first time she caught you in a compromising position with Harper,” Sawyer adds.

“Something about you leaving her apartment after an afternoon nookie session.”

They’re ganging up on me. I’m never going to hear the end of this unless I shut them down.

“For the last fucking time, there’s nothing happening with Harper. I got suckered into giving her a ride this morning by Harry,” I say, and to make sure my point is made, I add, “Why would I waste my time with a girl like her? She probably doesn’t even know what to do with a dick. Have you looked at her? She has virgin written all over her face.” The words make my stomach curl, but I need them to drop it. “Besides, she’s not even that cute. I like my woman with curves. Harper is a walking stick. It’d be like fucking a board.”

The small gasp behind me has me instantly regretting my words.

“Gotta go,” I say into the phone and put it in my pocket without waiting for a response. Slowly, I turn.

Harper stands before me, a flaming beauty, seething with anger. Her gorgeous red hair is in a tight ponytail, her eyes brimming with unshed tears. Fuck.

“Harper,” I whisper, reaching for her.

She takes a step back, holding her books close to her chest.

“I…uh…” I stutter, trying to think of an excuse. “I never meant for you to hear that.”

I definitely said the wrong thing because a notebook barrels towards my head. I quickly duck, avoiding it, but not quick enough to dodge a textbook hitting me in the eye.

I reach up, grabbing my eye as the book hits the ground, breaking the seam, pages flying away. She threw books at me. Hard. I look at Harper with my good eye. Her hand is on her chest, shock on her face.

“Are you happy now, Harper?”

“I didn’t…” she begins.

“Didn’t plan on throwing a book at my fucking face?” I growl. “Didn’t plan on acting like a child?”

I take a menacing step towards her, and she quickly retreats, a hand keeping distance between us.

“What, Harper? Don’t tell me you’re scared because you heard something you didn’t want to hear. The truth.”

If I’m going to be a dick, might as well go all in, right?

Harper hisses. “Screw you, Tristan Page! You’re nothing but a chauvinistic dick. I don’t know why I ever wanted you!” She pokes my chest, emphasizing each word. “You’ve made it abundantly clear that you are…you are…”

“Come on, little girl,” I egg on. “Spit it out. What am I?”

Her amber eyes meet mine, dancing like they’re on fire. Fuck if her pissed off isn’t hotter than shit. I seriously screwed up. Her breathing is heavy and ragged, pushing her small but perfect breasts towards me, barely brushing my chest.

“You are,” she pauses, “Nothing. You’re absolutely nothing, Tristan Page.”

She tries to walk away, but I pull her arm, forcing her between me and the truck.

“Nothing?” I question, her words hitting too close to home. “Really?”

Her breath hitches, arousal dancing in her eyes. Before I can stop myself, my mouth is on hers, brutally taking what I want. I nip at her lips, begging her to let me in. I move my hand from her hip, tracing her skin until I brush the swell of her breast. She gasps, allowing me the entrance I crave. I sweep in, devouring her sweet taste, knowing I could easily get addicted.

Harper whimpers when I push her against the hood. My body is so rigid that I literally ache. My erection rubs against her stomach, and I lift her, wanting our bodies to match up. Her leg wraps around my waist. I rock into her, but distant whistles and cat calls filter through my lust induced haze.

Harper must hear them, too, because she pulls back, breaking the best fucking kiss of my life. Avoiding her eyes, I look around at an audience. People even have their fucking phones out, taking pictures and videos.

My Review:

3.5 Stars!

A second chance romance, stalkers and danger, oh my!  You get all that and more in this first novel in the Harden Mysteries series from Lynn Stookes.

Kylie lost her husband and unborn child in a mugging that got out of control.  Now, she’s back in her hometown of Harden, Texas, living with her older brother and she is face-to-face with her old friend and crush, Blake.  Not to mention, there is a stalker/killer after her and everyone she loves is in danger.

I gave this 3.5 stars for a couple of reason.  One, this was Stookes first book.  While the plot was great, there was just too much going on all at once.  I had a hard time deciding if the second chance romance should have been spotlighted or if the mystery/suspense portion of the book was front and center.  Unfortunately, I felt the romance took a back seat to the mystery.  My other criticism was (and you might think I’ve lost it) the detail… there was almost too much in the way of mundane details that didn’t particularly add to the story.  However, despite that, this book was good.  I thought the plot was clever and it really sucked me in.  I liked every characters.  Seriously, all of them… well, maybe not the bad guys, but you get what I mean.

A great freshman effort and a nice start to what I think will be a great series!

My Review:

4 Stars!

This second book in the Harden Mysteries series brings us Dani and Sawyer’s story and it is pretty amazing!

Dani and Sawyer have a love-hate relationship.  Sawyer, a playboy, wants Dani.  Dani wants nothing to do with Sawyer and his playboy ways.  One night, during a particularly tense situation, things get hot and heavy, but the next morning, it’s back to fighting for these two.

We get another Harden mystery.  This time, Dani is the one in trouble and Sawyer is determined to keep her safe.  I really enjoyed this one.  The sparks fly between Sawyer and Dani.  The great cast of characters is back and we get introduced to even more.  They mystery is a doozy and there is even a return that I never saw coming!  Stookes’s writing has improved since book one and I look forward to more!

Danger, intrigue, cute as a button kids, old friends and an amazing romance make Ultimate Deception a great read!

Lynn Stookes was born and raised in the amazing state of Texas, where she currently resides with her husband of five years. They have one rambunctious four year old son and three furry children, who create the chaos she couldn’t live without.

One day, Lynn took her passion (maybe obsession is more apt) for romance books and mystery shows and wrote her first romantic suspense novel, Fatal Obsession, Book 1 in the Harden Series.

When Lynn isn’t writing or working her day job, you can find her reading on her Kindle, spending time with her family and friends, or playing on Facebook. She loves running, coffee, and country music in no particular order.

My savior isn’t prince charming.

I’m not that lucky.

He’s my worst nightmare.

He’s my one night stand from two years ago.

And he doesn’t remember me.

What happens on vacation doesn’t always stay on vacation. Especially in a place like Aspen. I moved to the mountains for my dream vet job. I never expected to run into the man of my dreams. Again.

I never thought I’d see her again.

My Cinderella didn’t leave me a shoe to find her.

Not that I’d need random footwear to recognize her.

Her kiss is something I’ll never forget.

Work hard. Play hard. I’m paid to be a nice guy on the slopes, but what I do in my off time isn’t always about making good choices. That’s the fun of living in a ski town. I stay while the women come and go.

Crazy Over You is a standalone romantic comedy and the second book in the Love with Altitude series.

My Review:

4.5 Stars!

Daisy Prescott has never let me down.  I haven’t read a book of hers I haven’t enjoyed.  Crazy Over You is another great read for one of my favorite authors!

Set in the snow covered mountains of Aspen, Colorado, Crazy Over You is a tale of second chances, finding yourself and finding love with your kissing soulmate.  Mara and Jesse are a great couple.  There is no insta-love here.  Quite the contrary.  Mara and Jesse met once upon a time and when they run into each other again, neither quite recognizes the other and when they do, they both keep quiet.  This leads to confusion and maybe a few hurt feelings.  But, once they get over that and let it go, we get a fun and sexy romance.  Of course, no romance is smooth sailing to the end.  Of course not, that wouldn’t make for a great romance.  So, of course there are obstacles and feelings that get in the way, but it is a fun read along the way.

You will crazy over this new book from Daisy Prescott, just like I am!

Blog Tour: 4.5 Stars for The Heartbeat Hypothesis by Lindsey Frydman

The Heartbeat Hypothesis

by Lindsey Frydman
Publication Date: March 20, 2017
Genres: Adult, Entangled: Embrace, New Adult, Contemporary, Romance

Audra Madison simply wanted to walk in the shoes of Emily Cavanaugh, a free-spirited teenager who died too young. After all, Audra wasn’t supposed to be here.

Thanks to Emily, Audra has a second chance at life. She’s doing all the things that seemed impossible just two years ago: Go to college. Date. Stargaze in the Rocky Mountains. Maybe get a tattoo. You know, live.

Jake Cavanaugh, a photographer with mysterious, brooding gray eyes, agrees to help chronicle her newfound experiences. She makes him laugh, one of the only people who can these days. As they delve into each other’s pasts – and secrets – the closer they become.

But she’s guarded and feels like she can’t trust anyone, including herself.

And he’s struggling with the fact that his beloved sister’s heart beats inside her.

My Review:

4.5 Stars!

In a genre filled with so much of the same, The Heartbeat Hypothesis comes along and gives you something different, something refreshing and something that will stick with you long after you’re done.

Audra received Jake’s sister’s heart in a heart transplant and she desperately wants to honor Jake’s sister, Emily, in some way. I mean, really, how sweet is that? It’s definitely sweet and highly emotional. I loved the honest responses from Jake and the timid yet determined way that Audra had about her. She spent so much of her life sick and now has this new lease on life, but she has walked herself into an emotional minefield with Jake. She is a constant reminder of his sister and Audra knows that Jake is hiding something. This whole book was amazing. I was two chapters in and just knew I was going to need to find a box of tissues. I was so right. I cried at the sad parts and I cried harder at the HEA. Oh that HEA was so beautiful.

If you are looking for something a bit different from the typical romances out there, then you are going to want to read this book. Heck, even if you don’t want something different, you want to read this. This talented author has written something truly magical!

Lindsey has been writing since she was nine years old, when she discovered the awesomeness that is Harriet the Spy. Her books always include a romance, though sometimes there’s an added sci-fi or magical realism twist. She lives in Columbus, Ohio (where the weather is never quite right). Her BFA in Photography and Graphic Design has granted her a wide assortment of creative knowledge that serves as inspiration (and not much else). When she’s not crafting YA and NA stories, you’ll likely find her spending waaay too much time on Pinterest, playing a video game, singing show-tunes, or performing in a burlesque show—because she enjoys giving her introversion a worthy adversary. (Plus, it’s the closest to Broadway she’ll ever get.) Lindsey was a proud 2016 Pitch Wars Mentee and thoroughly adores being a part of the wonderful writing community. THE HEARTBEAT HYPOTHESIS is her debut novel.

Title: Waiting to Breathe
Series: Waiting Duet #1
Author: Alyson Reynolds
Genre: New Adult/Contemporary Romance
Release Date: March 21, 2017

She’s broken.He’s lost.

Olivia Crawford had been through the ringer. All she wants is to start over without any complications or anyone figuring out her secrets. When her twin brother Finn convinces her to move back home and finish her degree at his school, it’s just the push she needs to start over.

Nathaniel Ford is the golden boy of SCU. He seems like he has it all, perfect family, awesome friends and fraternity brothers, and a few buildings on campus with his last name on them. But things aren’t always what they seem.

From the first time Nate and Olivia bump into each other, literally, he wants more of her feisty attitude, but Olivia throws more walls up with each step he takes closer, and he isn’t sure he can break them down fast enough.

My Review:

4 Stars!

A sweet little new adult romance about two people who find relief from the pressures of their life in each other.

This story was different from so many of the other new adult romances out there.  The hero, Nate, wasn’t a jerk or a manwhore.  He was kind and caring and patient.  His feelings for Olivia didn’t feel forced.  Olivia was a little immature for my tastes, but I forgave that due to the past issues she was dealing with.  She tended to sabotage herself and her relationship with Nate, but once she opened her eyes, it was a beautifully sweet romance.

A refreshing read with characters you’ll love and a sweet HEA.
